About the Artist:
Kok Hwee first came into contact with ceramic pottery in 1989 and has never turned back.

He has a Certificate in sculpture from Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA). His work has gone on show in many art exhibitions, and many pieces have been sold not only to local but also to international collectors.

Committed and enthusiastic in the local art scene, he is actively imparting the magic of pottery to many ever-eager-to-learn students.

Nowadays, it is difficult to find like-minded artists who are willing to pursue ceramic art as a hobby, let alone as a profession. It is his hope, and the hope of many in the business of ceramic art, to reach out to more people via Road Shows, Demonstrations and Exhibitions, so as to keep this wheel turning and turning …

Brief Description of Work:
Kok Hwee works on various ceramic forms, but his main interest lies with pottery pieces, transforming a slab of plain clay into a piece of pottery art.

In this world, symmetry plays a vital role to give the eye a pleasant form. A spherical pot in Exhibit 1 has a matted reddish brown tone accentuated by golden yellow patterns revolving around the piece which adds a touch of the orient.

Thrown and altered, the second piece stems from Lao Zi's quote “it is written the water that flows into earthenware vessel takes on its form”. The wavy flow on the side manifested in Exhibit 2 lies in the accentuation of the throwing lines and tactile manipulation.
